3 Natural Immune-Boosting Tools

One thing most of us dread about the colder months is trying to dodge new strains of colds and flus.  But, today, there are more strains going around than ever before and year-round.

I’m here to bring more peace by giving natural tools to not only help prepare you for the winter months but to also boost the immune system year-round.  The more you strengthen your immune system by using certain tools regularly, the less likely you’ll catch new bugs that are always circulating.  These tools are also beneficial for chronic sinusitis, sinus infections, seasonal allergies and food poisoning.

Medical Medium Healing Broth

One of my favorite natural tools to strengthen the immune system is The Medical Medium Healing Broth.  It’s also amazing for fighting and helping recover from an acute illness like a cold or flu.  This nourishing broth is not only mineral-rich and comforting but provides nutrients from veggies, herbs and spices in a way that makes it easy for the body to digest and use.

Healing broth has been a staple for both my husband and I throughout our healing journeys and has worked well for us.  We love to sip on it in the afternoons, use it as a soup base, and our favorite way of having it is with steamed vegetables, fresh herbs, gluten free noodles and splash of lime – Recipe on the next blog post!

Tip: Make batches and freeze so it’s easily accessible.  I like freezing in Souper Cubes which are in my Amazon store linked on my Product Guide page.

Medical Medium Healing Broth Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 carrots chopped, or 1 sweet potato, cubed

  • 2 stalks of celery, chopped

  • 2 onions, sliced

  • 1 cup of parsley, finely chopped

  • 1 cup shiitake mushrooms, fresh or dried (optional)

  • 2 tomatoes, chopped (optional)

  • 1 bulb of garlic (6-8 cloves), minced

  • 1 inch of fresh turmeric root

  • 1 inch of fresh ginger root

  • 8-10 cups of water

  • Optional: chili peppers or red pepper flakes

Tip: To give more healing benefits, we like to add a few sprigs of fresh thyme and 1 TBSP of Atlantic dulse flakes which are additions from the Medical Medium Thyroid Healing Broth.

Directions:

Place all ingredients in a large pot and bring to a boil.  Simmer on low for one hour and then strain.

Thyme Water, Tea and Shock Therapy

Thyme is a wonderful herb for fighting pathogens and also great to boost the immune system as it has some of the highest antioxidant levels among herbs.  My favorite healing benefit of thyme is that it lingers and stays circulating in the body creating a time-released protective barrier against pathogens.  It can also help bring down a fever and soothe coughs.

Thyme Water recipe (most hydrating)

Place a bunch of fresh thyme in 32 oz of room temperature water. Allow to steep on the counter overnight. In the morning, remove thyme sprigs and add lemon and raw honey.

Thyme Tea Recipe

Place a couple sprigs of fresh thyme in 10-16 oz of hot water.  Let steep for 15 minutes and remove sprigs.  Can add raw honey and/or lemon.

Thyme Tea Shock Therapy recipe

During the onset of a cold or flu, brew 16 sprigs of fresh thyme per 8 oz of hot water (can start with less if sensitive). Let steep for 15 minutes and strain or remove sprigs.  Can add raw honey and/or lemon.

Drink every 3 waking hours.  Can do this for up to 3-5 days and then can go back to a regular dosage.  After 1 week, can start another round.

Zinc & Shock Therapy

Today, zinc is a mineral that most are deficient in due to it being depleted from much of our soil and food supply.  Zinc is an essential mineral for good health and is one of the most important tools for fighting pathogens as it promotes a healthy immune response.

Supplementing with zinc daily is an amazing tool for supporting the immune system and defending yourself against pathogens, but you want to make sure you have the right kind of zinc – liquid zinc sulfate (Vimergy is my preferred brand).  Liquid zinc sulfate is more bioavailable and offers faster absorption compared to zinc tablets or gummies.

Zinc is something my husband and I take regularly and always have in our medicine cabinet.  Whenever we feel like we’re coming down with an acute illness, we always turn to the Medical Medium Zinc Shock Therapy recipe below for pathogen-fighting support.

Zinc Shock Therapy Recipe

Directions:

Squirt 2 dropperfuls of liquid zinc sulfate into your throat, let it sit there for a full minute and then swallow.  Can repeat every 3 waking hours for up to 2 days.
